Well Spent!

Overview

Co-created a mobile game to help women facing food insecurity reflect on the challenges they face, and encourage them to seek support.

Role

Co-creator

Major Contributions

Concept Design

I led a collaborative design process with the team to design the game, grounded in real circumstances identified via quantitative and qualitative research.

Read the evidence that informed the design here

Prototyping & Play testing

I conducted 30+ playtests with food access activists, educators, game designers, and individuals with experience facing food insecurity. I then worked with the team to iterate on the design in between playtest periods (6+ iterations in 3 months).

Above is an early prototype, designed to test the game concept and core mechanics.

Outcome

The game won 1st place in a national 3 phase competition held by the Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women’s Health, receiving a total of $75,000 in funding.

We are currently in conversation with government-funded nutrition education programs to incorporate the game into their curricula.
